Morningland Frequently Asked Questions

In the years since leaving the ashram, I've had to answer many questions in my own mind. This page is the results of what I've come up with and reflects the answers that I needed to make peace with my experience in Morningland.

The answers on this page may or may not be true, but they are the answers that made me feel okay with my experience of discipleship in the years that have followed my leaving.

I hope that they work for you, too.
    -Al/Ishvara Das.

    Is Morningland a cult?

    Yep.

Is Morningland a brainwashing, exploitive, cult of death?

    Nope.

Much of my life outside of Morningland has been spent re-assessing every opinion that I blindly accepted from Sri. Ultimately I found it necessary to let go of many of them since they just didn't withstand the test of time.

To this day, I have yet to find conspiracy theories and predictions of the end of the world to be of any assistance on my path to oneness.

    Is Donato the Christ?

I don't know. What's a Christ? The World Savior? Ask me again when the world has been saved. If we can credit that to Donato, then he must be the Christ.

Until then, however, we're all ultimately responsible for our own evolution. Who he is, or who she is, or who he was, or who they are, is of little consequence if you are smart enough to trust yourself. Who you are is what matters.

Be true to yourself and your path, and we'll all meet up at Home. What Donato taught and what Morningland teaches takes you to the same place as any higher path. Call it Buddhism, Christianity, or stamp collecting.

All that matters is what works for you. If you still feel the need to follow the "One True Christ" for the Aquarian age, go look in the mirror. It's all in your heart, where to go, who to learn from. If your life brings a sense of peace, you're on the right track. If you live in a world of fear, confusion, or frustration, then you may not be where you need to be.

I'm no longer in the ashram, have I no part in the plan?

Each cell in the body of Christ has a specific purpose. Blood cells in the body all begin in the bone marrow and end up elsewhere. We all started out in Morningland, but just like blood cells, we must eventually leave to complete our missions.

And to do this, I needed to adopt teachings from other teachers representing other paths.

Some cells within the body of Christ cannot fulfill their purpose without the energy of Bahkti, the path of devotion; others need to discover Buddhism, a path of detachment; Islam, a path that features the gifts arising from surrender; and so on...

Oneness is a home with many many doors. It is Home that should be our focus, not the door through which we enter.

As cells in the body of Christ it is essential that we find our part to play, as well as the tools by which we can discover our part and realize its task. Follow your heart, trust yourself. Have fun. Do the work you love. That's the way in which I've discovered my path, my part, my Self.

I was sent away on sabbitical, but I was never called to return. What's the matter with me? Did I completely screw up?

As a cell in the body of Christ, you need to differentiate into a cell that does your job. Just like the blood cells change into red ones or white ones, so it is that we all change into the cells that we need to be. Blood cells cannot complete this process if they're still in the bone marrow. They have to get out and circulate. We've been sent out to differentiate, to become ourselves. You can't do this if you remain in the ashram.

Why was I told never to do any public relations for Morningland?

Our job is to become ourselves. If we're doing public relations for Morningland, we tend to want to only present ourselves as high, happy, and spiritually pretentious individuals. We can't become ourselves if we're on stage. Not doing public relations, or making contacts, or directing light bearers to the temple is a means that can help assure our discovery of who we really are, free to be the slimiest bastard or most sainted person we need to be in any given moment. Just like the master.

    Is Morningland the "only" way?

    Nope.

    Is Morningland the "best" way?

For some, yes. For others, no.

    Is Morningland a spaceship?

What's a spaceship? Its a vehicle. Morningland is a vehicle, just like Judaism, just like Taoism.

But what about flying the spaceship to the great central sun and all of that?

I don't know. Doesn't really concern me too much to be honest. I do what's in front of me. When what is in front of me is the boarding ramp of a starship, then I'll walk into it. Duh.
