Regarding depression, chemistry helps a lot!
But the behavior that helps me the most is to focus on someone else... to somehow get out of the morass by trying to help someone.
That sounds like denial, but to me it is a matter or refocusing my attention. Pretty soon, if I diligently think of others, I genuinely feel better!

In almost all her actions and words...SHE alone was able to "understand". If Sri said you didn't, well then by god, you DIDN'T.
This occurred with other disciples and the Gopis as well. Within a few months...I changed from someone who never looked to others for reassurance to someone who spent every waking moment trying to be reassured that what I was being, doing, thinking, etc. was right.
That to me is the essence of brainwashing. You no longer look to yourself and trust yourself for correct perception... you now believe that another's perceptions are more correct and you stop trying to perceive. You try and guess what it is the person in power wants to hear. Of course at some point this is obvious and you become insane trying NOT to do this because you know it is the opposite of what you think you are trying to achieve. And the mad cycle and spiral downwards begins.
